Beaufort County Literacy Volunteers recently announced the cancellation of their 20th Anniversary Party scheduled for Sunday, October 3, due to concerns about COVID-19. Nonprofits have also postponed the car / game fundraising scheduled for October 29th.
“Thanks to the 10 members of the former Steering Committee, 9 former tutors, 6 directors and 7 program managers for guiding the program so far,” a statement from Literacy Volunteers. Says. “We would especially like to thank our past and present tutors and board members for giving us time and talent to improve the lives of our students. You made a difference!”
Literacy volunteers who survived the financial crisis with the help of the community earlier this year are looking for volunteers who spend 90 minutes a week helping their students improve their reading, writing, conversation and math skills. Volunteers take a 15-hour training program. The program is available online, face-to-face, or in a hybrid format. If you’re interested, call Pam Deese (252-974-1812) or visit the Literacy Volunteer Office on 113 East 15th Street in Washington.
