Atlanta (CBS46) — A Lithonian man was convicted of murdering a rival for revenge, said DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston.

The jury convicted 31-year-old Sanjay Stewartson on Wednesday for manslaughter and weapons crimes related to the shooting of 51-year-old Noel “BoBo” Dawkins.

Dawkins was shot dead in a parking lot on the Covington Highway on the morning of May 8, 2018. Stewartson pulled him into the parking lot with his two friends. When he saw Dawkins, he reportedly got out of the car and started a discussion with him. The debate escalated into a physical battle, and Stewartson pulled out his gun and shot Dawkins three times.

Stewartson escaped from the scene, leaving behind his sandals, cell phone and passport. An unlaunched revolver was also found on site. Dawkins died of a wound on his torso.

Almost a week later, Stewartson went to the Lawrenceville police station to report that he had lost his passport. The dispatcher carried out his name and found an aggressive arrest warrant for the murder in DeKalb County.

Following his conviction, Stewartson was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 5 years on probation.
