Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — The Wichita Open hosted a junior clinic for cancer patients and survivors. Natalie Unsworth was a young man in attendance. “Last year, I didn’t know what kind of sport I wanted to play and I couldn’t control my food,” Natalie told KSN.
In July 2020, Answorth was 14 years old and was diagnosed with a stage 3 germ cell tumor, also known as childhood ovarian cancer. She will need surgery to remove the 21 cm tumor.
“It was overwhelming. My baby girl was very strong,” said Natalie’s mother, Jamie Answorth. Natalie was able to ring the bell of victory in November after completing the chemotherapy. “It’s amazing to know that I’ve changed from dying to this,” explained a cancer survivor, now 15 years old.
Seven months later, Natalie redeemed herself on the golf course and received a hint from a pro at the tournament. “I was ill this time last year, but when I look at her today, I don’t know,” Jamie told KSN.
The Wichita Open will take place on Thursday, June 17th at the Crestview Country Club.
