Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) — Bill and Emmanuel Oye have been passionate about fashion since they were young.
“We grew up in fashion. My mother made sure we were always dressed. We went to church on Sunday. As you know, we are always in suits and everything. I wear it, “says Emmanuel.
They developed their own style and gathered in January to share it with the people of Omaha.
“It was during quarantine that we had time to think and didn’t really have a job. We thought,’OK, we need to do something,'” Bill said.
Their brand Black Phoenix was born with the simple goal of making high quality clothing and building a positive community.
“What Black Phoenix expresses to me is like a family. We are all different people, different states, different countries, and different ideas. And we are Black Phoenix. What I want to do is get everyone together, “said Emmanuel.
Everything from shirts to jackets to shorts is custom designed. People can even bring their own ideas, and the brothers do it.
“I don’t think there’s a design like us in the city because we can really connect with individuals and make sure they get what they want,” Bill said.
Black Phoenix recently moved to its first storefront, providing people with a safe space for shopping, socializing and creativity.
“Honestly, it feels great because all this started in our room. So it’s great to be able to grow up and be in this space. We can connect more with our clients. “I will.” Bill said.
Bill and Emmanuel are working hard to extend their reach throughout the city and eventually hope to partner with schools and sports teams.
“It feels good because we can influence people in the right way and know that my mother is happy,” Emmanuel said.
The Black Phoenix Store is at Ujammer Vendor Collective From 83rd Street and Maple Street. The store is open Monday to Saturday from 1 pm to 8 pm.
