Leaders held a drive-through food pantry at the Veterans United Mortgage Amphitheater in Virginia Beach on Tuesday afternoon, giving hungry residents access to fresh food in a socially distant way.

“I needed it,” said Kenji Blade.

Blade said she only spent 30 minutes waiting in line on Tuesday, but she says spending 30 minutes makes a difference.

“I’m an elderly person. I haven’t worked since last March, so I’m running out of money,” he said.

She needs a little extra help when it comes to eating, like hundreds of other families who stopped by the Veterans United Mortgage Amphitheater in Virginia Beach on Tuesday. Virginia Beach Human Resources has jumped at the idea of ​​helping.

“It’s part of the population we serve in Human Services. I think the SNAP Benefits Program is just one part of what we’re doing and an extension of that work,” Virginia Beach Human Services said. Brian Clark of the department said.
