Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – There is a suggestion to rename some of South Coors. A monk who died in a crash In that area last month. “Father Graham, it’s very special to us, and to us for this community. It’s a huge loss,” said Steven Michael Quezada, Commissioner of Bernarillo County.
The loss that Kezada says was felt not only in the Catholic community, but throughout New Mexico. “He was an amazing representative of our religion as well as our community,” Kezada said.
Father Graham Golden’s car was beaten in May when it was pulled out of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Ravid in Coors near Pajarito. Witnesses reported seeing the car that hit him competing with another.
Recently, the monastery contacted city council member Clarissa Pena and commissioner Kezada to ask if they would dedicate South Coors by renaming them from the center to the county border, renaming Father Graham. “We want him to never be forgotten,” Kezada said.
But Coors is a state highway. “We don’t have jurisdiction over it,” Pena said. This means that if a joint resolution proposing a name change is approved by the city and county, they will submit the proposal to the Ministry of Transport.
“In reality, you have to follow certain criteria, such as certain events and names of people,” said Kimberly Galegos, a spokesman for NMDOT.
Gallegos states that it receives several of these proposals each year, most of which are approved. “He was a nice guy, so I can’t say I want to name this street after my neighbor,” Gallegos said. “I think he was a good person, but there are criteria we must meet.”
By renaming the street, Councilor Pena says, while preserving Father Graham’s legacy, more attention can be paid to the ongoing speeding issues in the city. “We have lost mothers, fathers, daughters, brothers and sisters,” Pena said. “We need to bring awareness to the problem of speeding.”
The resolution will be introduced at the city council meeting on Monday night.Manuel Soria is facing Vehicle murder In connection with the death of Father Graham.
