Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – Another surge in COVID-19 cases in Sedgwick County.
This week, KSN News spoke with a nurse working on the front lines. He says the hospital had to change their location recently.
Gabriela Sedaño says she works for Ascension Via Christi and has noticed an unfortunate trend in recent weeks. More residents are hospitalized or treated due to complications of COVID-19. She says that when people look back last month, the number of patients infected with the coronavirus has doubled at their location.
During this time, they are also facing the staff shortage she says, making it much more complicated to get enough hands to support the COVID-19 unit.
“It’s really bad, people just don’t believe it,” Sedaño said. “Our COVID-19 unit floor had to grow again. There was more room as they had to expand the floor for the patient.”
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 111 new COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state last week.
