Corpus Christi, Texas-After the COVID-19 outbreak at Camp Zephyr in Sandia, other local camps continue to take precautions to keep their campers safe.
Both the local YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America’s South Texas Council have hosted summer camps throughout the summer and say they haven’t had any positive COVID-19 cases since they started the camp.
Marty Sepulveda, Scout Executive and CEO of the South Texas Council Boy Scout of America, said he was following the CDC’s guidance.
“Intentionally there were few or no indoor classes. Everything was outdoors,” he said.
Sepulveda said this was just one way to keep their camp safe. Also, to significantly reduce the number of participants to 100 and prevent virus mitigation, everyone sleeps in separate tents. Mask is optional.
“We highly recommend them indoors when there is no social distance,” he said.
The camp will be held this weekend at Camp Karankawa in Matisse.
