Jack of Fresno and the teens of the Jill of America branch have raised enough money to donate two “little libraries” full of dozens of books.
Lalaina Rabetsimba is the teenage president of the organization. She says her goal is to get books in the hands of children.
“This limits certain barriers such as having to go to a bookstore, having to go to a library, etc. Instead, the community already has books that you don’t have to pay for. If you want, these You can store your books. You can bring them in. Go back, “says Laraina.
The “Little Free Library” will be located at two West Fresno Family Resource Centers, Maxi L. Parks Community Center and Mary Ella Brown Community Center.
Janice Mathurin-Boyd is the Operations Director of a non-profit organization.
The families they serve are often from nearby poorly serviced communities.
“We’ve been serving the community for over 20 years and we’re happy to accept it because we know the needs that exist, and low literacy is one of them,” said Janice.
Teens also donated $ 2,000 to a nonprofit organization.
The funds cover swimming lessons for about 50 children.
Thomas Stewart is the teenage vice president of the Jack and Jill of America branch of Fresno.
Donations are personal to him, as he has participated in water sports since junior high school.
“There aren’t many other people who look like me or like us. Not only is it important for us to see more people like us in these spaces, but ours I also thought it was important to make sure that young people were safe in the water, “says Thomas. ..
Johnny Young, president of Fresno’s Jack and Jill, believes that their swimming lessons can help save lives.
“We are very proud of them. They are a good representation of who we are and what we represent in our organization,” says Johnny.
Both organizations want to work together to provide a more similar program for local children.
