After the mobile phone footage captures the video Two street vendors being harassed At Central Long Beach, the community and non-profit organization Local Hearts hosted a rally to buy goods from street vendors to show their support.
Along Cedar Avenue, there was a line of people who wanted to buy shaved ice, cones with spikes, and chopped fruit in cups. Lowrider cars rushed into the middle of the street, and some cars used flood control to bounce off the pavement.
One of the street vendors, Jose Eugueno Vivanco Bruno, said many people are happy to come to support his small business.
“We are working hard to make sure we make some money for our family,” he said.
Another street vendor, Eliu Ramirez, said she was harassed by a woman on Monday and turned to police for help. When the police arrived, they intervened and forced Ramirez to ticket that he did not have the proper license.
But on Wednesday police said it was not their policy to sell tickets to street vendors, and they would invalidate the tickets.
Bruno confirmed that the ticket was invalid during the event on Saturday.
