Long Road to Post-Flood Recovery in Menifee County – Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky

Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky 2021-07-30 19:22:06 –

Frenchberg, Kentucky (LEX 18) — Flash floods have damaged at least 12 Menifee County homes and several businesses, according to county officials.

James Agee said he was always watching the floods, but nothing like what his family experienced on Friday.

“I was surprised at how fast it rose. Usually it doesn’t rise that fast,” Agee said.

Agee said he woke up to a few feet of water-covered vestibule.

According to Age, the flow was so strong that he started to carry the car out.

The family said they found a car turned upside down after the water had drained and the walls of the concrete block bridge were torn and scattered throughout the site.

“I’m not worried about everything that’s lost. No one drowned, and that’s important,” Agee said.

The water stopped rising before entering the house, but Agee said many of his neighbors weren’t so lucky.

Judge Rick Stilltner said it could take months in Menifee County to fully recover from the damage caused by bad weather.

“Because I was in Menifee County, this is the worst flood I’ve seen,” Stilltner said.

According to Stilltner, the crew is working on cleaning up and repairing the road.

Everyone in Menifee County in need of help due to the flood is asked to call the judge’s office at 606-768-3482.
