Longs, South Carolina (WBTW) —Longs residents Fire at Longs Post OfficeEven if the United States Postal Service says it will install a mobile unit soon.

It’s been about a month since the Longs Post Office fire stopped operations.

“This post office was used by people to get medicine, and people were checked for social security, which means they depend on this facility as part of their daily lives,” William Bailey said. The representative said.

The United States Postal Service said it would bring mobile units and PO Boxes up and running in the field within a few days, but as News13 First reported Tuesday, It hasn’t happened yet, and those days are changing to weeks.

“The first thing I heard was that it would be processed in a few days, and I haven’t seen anything happen yet,” said Michael Bayerschmidt, a resident of Longs. Said.

A mobile US Postal Service truck has been sitting in the parking lot since late June, and residents are passing by the parking lot looking for it to work.

“We want this mobile truck with wheels to be up and running. If it isn’t up and running, the community will not be serviced,” Bailey said.

Until then, those residents will have to use the North Myrtle Beach post office.

“It’s nice to have a simple dropbox for emails, especially during the tourist season so you don’t have to run out of all the traffic,” says Beierschmitt.

Residents of Longs said they even offered to receive mail for their older neighbors and those who didn’t have a car. The United States Postal Service did not answer when asked by Maria DeBone of News13 what took so long, but the representative said, “Sorry for the inconvenience. Box on the Longs Post Office site. We are continuing to install mobile retail units. ”

“I’m going to start delivering email,” Bailey said. “Just open the truck and it’s 50% more noticeable a day and you’ll walk to the car, but let’s open it. That’s ridiculous,” says Bailey.

News13 asked Bailey what the United States Postal Service had told him about the cause of the delay. He said a lot of bureaucracy needs to occur before it is ready. He said he was in contact with the United States Postal Service to get the unit up and running as quickly as possible.
