Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) —Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that Lieutenant Nicole Bendilly died suddenly at her home earlier this week.

“We are deeply moved by the sudden heartbreak of Lieutenant Bendilly, an incredible deputy sheriff who made many lasting contributions to Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office and Virginia Beach City,” said Virginia. Beach Sheriff Ken Stolle said. “She is very missed and always remembers the impact she had. We are doing everything we can to support her family during this difficult time.”

Lieutenant Bendilly joined VBSO on July 1, 2002 and played various roles in the unit for 19 years. She was recently assigned to the medical department, but previously worked in Orthodontic Surgery, Intake / Release, Classification, and Professional Standards.

She was also a Virginia Criminal Justice Certified General Instructor, teaching ethics and other topics to new employees at the Basic Academy.

During her career, she also worked to form a criminal intelligence department, investigating and successfully prosecuting the first Racketeer Impacted and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) case in Virginia Beach.

Lieutenant Bendilly was also an active volunteer for Special Olympics Virginia and other purposes.
