Lots of people may be skipping second vaccine dose – Riverside, California

A new trend is seen across the state, as approximately half of the total population of Corpus Christi, Texas — Nueces County has not yet been vaccinated with COVID-19. A person who skips the second dose of two vaccines that require two doses.

The Texas Department of Health reports that 2 million Texas people are scheduled for a second shot, more than half of whom are more than three months past the deadline.

That is a concern for health leaders.

“Because the delta variant (of COVID-19) is still endemic in the state, the protection provided by a double dose of the vaccine is important to help delay new, especially severe cases,” DSHS said. Press Officer Douglas Loveday said in an email.

Two fully vaccinated Corpus Christi residents soon joined the state, urging those who were first vaccinated with the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine to end their regimen.

“If you get the first one, get the second one,” said Cindy Reyes. “Keep it safe. It’s a matter of life and death.”

Robin Waters’ advice was more practical.

“If you get the first one, you’d better get the second one, unless the first one is okay,” she said.

However, some Corpus Christi residents, such as Felicita Connor, remain unvaccinated for fear of experiencing possible side effects.

She is worried about even one shot, such as what long-term health effects the vaccine can have.

But if she finally decides to vaccinate, she will go forever.

“If they get the first one, they need to (take a second dose)-more protection,” Connor said.

DSHS recently implemented a new system in the hope that more people would get that advice.

“DSHS began sending text reminders to the Texans, which is scheduled for a second dose, last week,” Loveday said in an email.
