Norman, Oklahoma — Love’s Travel Stops has made a decisive step forward in the University of Oklahoma’s new softball stadium, the university’s athletic club announced Thursday.

Love’s has donated $ 9 million to the project and promised to donate another $ 3 million to the field every other $ 1 from other donors.

Donations are the largest charitable donation for women-specific sports programs in college history.

“As a lifelong Oklahoma, we are proud to invest in the community, especially the University of Oklahoma and its softball program,” said Jenny Lovemeier, Chief Culture Officer and Executive Vice President of Loves. Says.

“What Patty Gasso achieved with softball at a women’s college, not just during his tenure at the OU, is awe-inspiring. The program she built is honesty, patience and strong work ethics. In line with the core value of love, the world was able to see it. I am proud to win the Women’s College World Series in 2021. I am in this program and a new stadium suitable for the team. We are proud that our names are associated with each other. “

Patty Gasso has been an Oklahoma softball coach for the past 27 seasons with a record of 1,335-341-2. This is the highest win rate of .792 among coaches who coach at least 1,000 games.

Under Gasso, OU has won five national championships, including the 2021 title, and 20 conference championships, including the last nine regular seasons and the last four postseason tournament championships.

“I can’t say how grateful I am. Our program is grateful for Love’s travel stop and the generosity of the Love family,” Gasso said.

“They have shared the idea of our championship and have embraced not only the success of our program, but also the culture we have built up among student athletes and fans. They also embrace us. We recognize that in order to maintain the level of excellence we have achieved, Love’s must be a national leader in all aspects of the program, including facilities. Love’s enables women to reach the absolute pinnacle of achievement while encouraging the next generation to look to the future with their greatest dreams. Dreams really come true. “

Love’s Field has 10,500 square feet of indoor training facilities, nearly twice the size of today’s training spaces, and several team spaces such as training rooms, locker rooms, and classrooms.

It will be built on the northwest corner of South Jenkins Avenue and Imhoflode, about 0.5 miles south of the current stadium location. It can accommodate 3,000 seats and is designed to expand.

The parking lot is located in the existing paved parcel of the Lloyd Noble Center, opposite the street south of the new site.

According to the OU, Love’s Field’s minimum estimate is currently around $ 27 million, of which $ 20 million is raised through the Sooner Club.

The milestone happened in 2022 and is planned to open in the 2024 season.
