LSU hires Kelly away from Notre Dame as Tigers’ next coach – Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky

Louisiana State University hires Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame.

This is an amazing move for one of the most skilled coaches in college football to jump from the sport’s most famous program to the SEC powerhouse. That’s unusual for college football.

Those who are familiar with the decision said Associated Press Kelly left Notre Dame for LSU. The coach was reportedly recruiting for the road when the news was reported.

Kelly became the strongest coach in Notre Dame history earlier this season, surpassing Knut Rockney. In 12 seasons with Fighting Irish, he is 113-40.

According to AP, Notre Dame Cathedral finished the 11-1 season on Saturday and the team is competing for the third College Football Playoff in the last four years.

Since the Associated Press began in 1936, no other Notre Dame University coach has left Ireland to work for another school.

LSU has been looking for a new coach since reaching an agreement in October to break up with Ed Orgeron at the end of the season.

This move is another bomb for the sport the day after Southern California pulled Lincoln Riley away from Oklahoma.
