Tokyo – Brooks Curry, the first LSU Olympic swimmer to represent the United States in swimming, won the gold medal after serving as a relay member of the 4x100m freestyle relay team.
Curry swam alongside Break Pieroni, Zack Apple and Bowbecker in qualifying and finished first in the second heat. He led the team and started the event with a split of 23.51 in the first 50 meters. Curry finished his leg in the race with a time of 48.84.
Curry was replaced by Caeleb Dressel in the final. The United States has moved Italy and Australia away to win the gold medal.
All swimmers participating in the qualifying or final will be awarded medals.
Curry the first Tiger to compete in a 4×100 meter freestyle event since Zionbrin represented England at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
