Luis Garcia looks to keep Astros’ strong starts going vs. Tigers – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs, Colorado 2022-05-06 03:55:07 –

Right-handed José Urquidy continued his brilliant stretch with the Houston starter, beating the Detroit Tigers, visited by the Astros on Thursday, 3-2, achieving six shutout innings.

The team will continue a series of four games in Houston on Friday.

While the Astros won the walk-off opener on Thursday, Urquidy got in shape by posting at least six innings of Houston’s eighth start in the last 11 games.

Houston has a starter of 7-3 and an ERA of 2.05 in the last 11 games.

The Astros conclude their 17th straight match at the finale against the Tigers on Sunday. Houston manager Dusty Baker said his starting staff are essential to overcoming challenging stretches without straining the bullpen.

“This is where the guys are demonstrating their ability to get in shape and approach 100 pitches and 7 innings,” Baker said. “The starting pitcher is the key. The starting pitcher sets all the tones, the tones of the attacks that are rarely needed, and the tones of the bullpen that don’t need to go to the same place. Everyone every day.”

Right-handed Luis Garcia (1-1, 4.15 ERA) is the Astros starter scheduled for the second game in the series. He recorded the first quality start of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing the Astros 2-1 defeat, two runs with five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings.

Garcia is 1-0 with 1.74 ERA in two career games (one start) with the Tigers. He defeated Detroit 12-3 on June 24, 2021 with 6 innings, allowing 7 hits for 2 runs and 5 strikeouts for 2 walks.

Rookie right-handed Beau Brieske (0-1, 3.60 ERA) is tasked with starting Detroit on Friday. He made his major league debut on April 23, allowing the Colorado Rockies a 3-2 home loss, 3 hits, 3 runs and 5 innings, 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Brisky didn’t consider the decision at his recent start, the Tigers 5-1 Road beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. He allowed three hits with three strikeouts and one run with two walks in five innings.

Brisky was chosen by Detroit in the 27th round of the 2019 draft.

Detroit joined the series in the last ranked slugging in the American League, with a more timely extra-base hit on Thursday’s 9th inning, 2 runs, 2 outs and a home run from Game Thailand. I made it. The Tigers are having fun this season.

“We’ve had a hard time getting a big hit,” said Tigers manager AJ Hinch. “I thought our turn at bat was better. It was a big hit, a candy came out and we tied the game with two outs. Their closer (Ryan Pressly) is in the game, so there. Obviously a great job for our guys hanging out in the fight to keep the game alive and play their part.

“Hopefully, the energy of the first half of the nine times will be carried over to (Friday).”
