Madison, Wisconsin (AP) — City and county employees in Madison and Dane counties must be vaccinated with COVID-19. This is a move announced by leaders on Tuesday as delta variants of the coronavirus have spread nationwide.
Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway and Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said employees who could not prove vaccination would need to be tested weekly.
The Wisconsin Journal reports that city and county employees and all visitors also need to wear masks inside city and county buildings.
Parisi urged other employers to follow the leadership of the city and county.
City and county coronavirus cases have increased by 111% in recent weeks, but hospitalizations and deaths are stable. The immunization rate of nearly 70% in Dane County is the highest in the state.
The decisions in Madison and Dane counties will take place the day after the Wisconsin Medical Society has requested all medical institutions to require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
