Cleveland (WJW) —Last month, a marketing email addressed to a customer of the United States Postal Service in northeastern Ohio was forwarded and stored at the USPS facility in Pittsburgh.
A post office spokesperson said the mail was “bent” during the holiday rush when the agency “bent” the network during the holiday rush when a major backlog of the system delayed the delivery of mail and parcels in the Cleveland area for several weeks. He said it was diverted.
“The Pittsburgh plant ships mail to Cleveland for processing and delivery. Normal processing will return by the weekend,” USPS spokesman Naddia Dhalai said in a statement.
Daraei previously cited the unprecedented demand and staff shortages of the coronavirus pandemic as a factor in widespread email delays.
She said that there are currently about 17,000 post office employees nationwide absent from work due to the pandemic.
