Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – For the first time in program history, Maze High School will compete in the 5-A State Football Championship.

It’s been a long way for head coach Gary Guzman, who has been involved in this program for 10 years.

“I don’t have many opportunities, so I enjoy every minute,” said head coach Gary Guzman. “I think the kids are having a great time with it and I think they’re doing what we want them to do. I know you’re trying to chase it every day.”

The road to the state has never been so easy. It took 12 games, 10 wins and 2 losses for the corn to be reorganized and finished powerfully.

“I think both of these losses were very important to our program,” Guzman said. “I think the first defeat to Arc City was unexpected. I think it awakened us, and the defeat to Derby was great for our kids just because they were in a position to win the game. I think it gave me confidence. “

And that confidence ignited. Corn has won five games in a row and now has a chance to win all on Saturday.
