It’s a Boston sports comeback that you may not have known what you were waiting for: After a break of almost two years, Major League Baseball Quidditch will be back in Boston.
On Saturday, Boston Forge will host a three-game series against Rochester Whiteout, marking Forge’s first home match since 2019, according to a statement by Major League Baseball Quidditch spokesman Jack McGavan. Like many others, it was discontinued due to a coronavirus pandemic.
Originally adopted from the “Harry Potter” series, Quidditch is a joint full-contact sport that incorporates elements of basketball, rugby and dodgeball, according to MLQ. McGavan said in a statement that Major League Baseball Quidditch and 15 franchises across the United States and Canada would be the first Quidditch League to resume play.
Please be careful when returning. The league has produced a 35-page health and safety protocol book featuring the COVID Code of Conduct, requiring all members of the team to be vaccinated to compete.
Fenway Faithful was thrilled to see the Red Sox play directly on Friday.
The series begins at 7 pm at Sanders Stadium in South Boston. The game is open to the public and participants pay the required amount for the ticket.
