A 72-year-old man was killed in a car attack in Chinatown on Monday night.
According to police, a BMW station wagon driven by a 36-year-old man was heading west on the Nimitz Highway when he struck a pedestrian east of the Kekaurike Street intersection at around 7:30 pm.
At that time, when BMW attacked him, the pedestrian was lying on the marked pedestrian crossing for unknown reasons. The driver did not get injured and stayed at the scene.
According to police, the pedestrian suffered head and body injuries and was taken to a hospital in severe condition, where he died.
Speed, drugs, or alcohol were not factors on the part of the driver.
This is the 40th traffic-related death on Oahu this year, compared to 48 at the same time last year.
