Lincoln (CBS13) – A man was arrested after leading authorities in a fast chase stolen north of Roseville, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.
Jonathan Hughes, 37, from Lockeford, San Joaquin County, was found in a stolen vehicle along Northfoot Hills Boulevard around 7 pm on June 5.
According to the sheriff’s office, Hughes rushed into Southbound Highway 65 after an attempted traffic outage. Hughes is said to have reached speeds of up to 110 mph on the freeway, using his shoulders to overtake several cars.
According to investigators, Hughes then drove to the field near the intersection of Lonetree Boulevard and Blue Oaks Boulevard, turning to the opposite lane and colliding with another car, injuring the occupants. After a while, Hughes also hit the planter box in a nearby shopping center before the car stopped.
Hughes tried to escape, but was arrested by a chasing lieutenant. According to the sheriff’s office, a search for Hughes and the stolen vehicle found Hughes’ picking tools and batons.
Hughes was held in county prison and charged with assault for injury, vehicle theft, stolen vehicle possession, baton possession, resistance to arrest, and robbery equipment possession.
