New York City — Police say the man arrested the man after pushing the woman into the subway tracks when the train arrived at Union Square station Thursday morning.
According to the NYPD, a woman was called from a subway platform just before 8:30 am local time after being pushed into tracks 4, 5, and 6.
Surveillance video shows the suspect suddenly pushing a 40-year-old woman into the railroad tracks in front of an oncoming train while waiting.
According to officials, FDNY rushed to the scene to help take the victim off track, and New York City Transit Platform controllers subdued the suspect and detained him until police arrived.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and only slightly injured, officials said.
New York Police Department Secretary Transit Kathleen O’Reilly said on Twitter: “The proceedings are imminent and the proceedings will be prosecuted to the maximum extent possible.”
According to the MTA, the incident caused delays and service impacts along train lines 4 and 5.
Prosecution is imminent and the proceedings will be maximally prosecuted-a hero in the form of a NYCT platform controller appears instantly, taking control without hesitation, detaining suspects and at the same time helping victims 👏 https: //t.co/spOOaoeSeX
