Howard Hawkins, 46, of Pittsburgh, was detained by Pittsburgh police last night in connection with the shooting of Armir Turi in February, according to court documents.


A man charged with shooting Ahmir Tuli is currently detained in Allegheny County Jail. Howard Hawkins, 46, of Pittsburgh, was charged with murder on February 21 for the death of Tuli, who was shot dead in front of his mother’s restaurant, Preeti’s Pit, in the Strip district. Tuli was 18 years old. Hawkins was previously arrested on July 7 by the United States Marshals Service in North Hollywood, California. Pittsburgh police officers arrested Hawkins on Friday, according to court documents. According to the document, the preliminary hearing was held on Saturday at 2:25 am, before the Magisterial District Judge Robert Paul’s Bonic, who denied Hawkins bail. Pittsburgh public security officials did not provide additional information on how Hawkins was arrested by Pittsburgh police on Friday. According to the document, another Hawkins hearing is set at 11:00 am on August 6th. Last month, a detective from the Pittsburgh police violent crime unit arrested Chaila Robinson in connection with the murder of Turi. Robinson has been charged with interfering with his arrest and prosecution.
