Union, Missouri (KMOV.com)-Union police have charged a man they say they broke out in three places early Thursday morning.
One of the places was the CarsMade Simple used car lot. Owner Ruel Davis said the arsonist used gasoline from a lawnmower sitting outside to burn two cars.
“And this is a straightforward destruction,” Davis said.
Surveillance cameras recorded that a man poured gasoline into a rag and used it to burn a Dodge Dakota pickup truck and a Jeep Cherokee. He also said the person had cut eight tires.
“I’ve run out of a lot of money,” Davis said.
According to police, the arsonist also burned a scrapped car a few blocks away and the entrance to a nearby thrift shop, Agape House.
“It’s very disappointing for someone to do this, especially for Agape House, which is doing so much for the community and the county as a whole,” said Captain Rick Nice.
According to Davis, this is the third time a criminal has done a lot of damage in his car compartment or in a car repair shop next door. After this latest incident, he said he decided to return the lot of cars to his former Washington.
“This is the last straw. Over time, I’ve been working in that direction. This is the push,” said David.
On Friday, police arrested 30-year-old Darek Michael McMahon after being identified as a suspect. He was charged with two arson. His deposit is set at $ 50,000 in cash only and is held in Franklin County Jail.
