KOIN, Oregon — According to Oregon police, a 67-year-old man was killed after hitting several trees on Highway 20 in Lincoln County on Sunday night.
Initial investigations showed that the Peterbilt CMV, pulling the unloaded chip trailer, was heading east when it got on its shoulders. Driver Shady Cove’s David Damon reportedly made too many corrections across the centerline and west lanes before hitting a tree on the west shoulder.
Damon was pronounced deceased in the field.
Investigations are underway, but authorities say lane use, seatbelt use, and distracted driving are all likely to be the cause of the crash.
After the crash, the highway was closed for about eight hours.
