Fremont, Ohio (AP) — A man in Wisconsin pleaded not guilty to madness in a stinging attack, killing one man and injuring another. Ohio Turnpike Service Plaza.

Thomas Connor, 51, of Beloit, Wisconsin, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, attempted murder, and violent assault earlier this month. However, his lawyer corrected the plea.

He will be evaluated at the Court Treatment Center and will remain in custody until a competence hearing.

Connor was accused of attacking a patron with a knife at the Erie Islands Service Plaza on October 19.

David Diedrich, 66, in Laport, Indiana, was killed and Alan Austin, 53, in Delavan, Wisconsin, was injured, officials said.

Connor was shot dead and injured by a deputy sheriff in Sandusky County. Authorities said they had repeatedly ordered the weapons to be dropped and then charged the adjutant with a knife.
