Man gets life sentence for carjacking, fatal wreck in Topeka – Wichita, Kansas

Topika, Kang (AP) — A man in Topika was sentenced to life imprisonment in an accident that led to the death of a carjacker and another man.

Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced Wednesday the decision of Darren Matthew Johnson.

Johnson was convicted in May on charges of including a first-class murder committed during an inherently dangerous felony and exacerbation of robbery.

Carjacking occurred on June 22nd. Immediately after the carjacking, police saw the stolen Kia Soul and rushed away before giving a red light and head-on collision with another vehicle.

Ricardo Rodríguez, a passenger in the back seat of Kia, has died on the scene.
