Iowa City, Iowa (AP) — A man paralyzed when a police officer in Iowa shot him in April is suing a police officer. Marcelino Alvarez-Victoriano claims that the shooting was not justified.

Officials say Waterloo police officers shot Alvarez-Victoriano after pointing a pellet gun that looked like a shotgun at two Black Hawk County Sheriffs’ agents. However, the proceedings filed on Thursday cast doubt on the official version of the event. Please note that few details have been released months after the shoot.

Black Hawk County lawyer Brian Williams says he is still considering whether the use of police force is justified.

Joel Fitzgerald, police chief of Waterloo, says police officers were allowed internally.
