Asheville, SC (WSPA) -A man was sentenced to imprisonment on Monday for rape and exploitation of children in Asheville.
According to the Bancom District Attorney, Michael Jerome Stewart pleaded guilty to statutory rape of children under the age of 15 and computerized recruitment of children and three sexual exploitations of minors on Monday.
In March 2019, the victim and mother reported sexual assault to Asheville police.
Police found evidence containing text messages supporting the victim’s report.
The victim became pregnant as a result of the assault. According to the district attorney, the pregnancy has since ended. Paternity testing revealed that Stewart was the biological father of the fetus.
Stewart was charged with statutory rape, computerized recruitment of children, and the third exploitation of minors and was detained on May 28, 2020.
Stewart was sentenced to 14 to 17 years in prison and then probated for five years.
