Sabetha, Kansas (AP) — A 38-year-old man was shot dead by law enforcement officers after firing a nail from a nail gun and was seriously injured, the Kansas Department of Investigation said.

The shooting took place Wednesday night in the town of Sabetha in northeastern Kansas after Sabetha police and Nemaha County Sheriffs answered calls about individuals who could commit suicide.

According to KBI, when police officers tried to persuade Kelly J. Hall to leave the house, they heard some pops from inside.

The hall finally went out with an aerial powered nail gun. KBI said he refused the order to drop the gun and began nailing the officer.

The hall was transferred to Stormont Bale Hospital n Topika and listed on Thursday in a critical but stable condition.
