Early Wednesday morning, a 34-year-old man who allegedly hit a 39-year-old woman with tire iron in Mapuna Puna was released today.
Police released the man today at 8:30 am and suspended investigations into two protection order violations and a second assault case.
According to police, men and women were involved in a physical quarrel called a “strike exchange” that lasted from 1 am to 1:18 am.
The man then tried to remove the tire iron from the woman, and reportedly hit her with it.
Police said several bystanders came to help the woman and the man fled.
Emergency medical services took the woman to the hospital in a serious condition with a laceration in her neck from a tire iron.
Police found the man and arrested him on Wednesday at 2:08 am on suspicion of two assaults and two breach of protection orders.
According to online court records, the man was issued a temporary detention order by a woman on March 19, 2020, and the protection order expires in 2025.
The man was charged with criminal charges on January 7 for camping and entering a closed park. He will be released on his own initiative and will be arraigned in March.
