In light of the tragic event that happened at Rob Elementary School in Texas last Tuesday, I wanted to contact you and share some thoughts. We would like to express our deepest sympathies to all the families who lost their loved ones in this incident. The school should be a safe and secure place for students. As a parent of current MUSD students, I know that these events bring additional fear and anxiety about the school environment. I acknowledge these concerns and want to reassure you that your child’s school is the same safe school you have trusted in your child until this horrific event. thought.

MUSD and our school prioritize safety and have many steps in place to deal with negative situations. Our schools and districts regularly implement and review safety policies with staff and students. The district also formed a district threat assessment team that meets regularly throughout the year. We maintain strong cooperation with local law enforcement agencies and emergency personnel. We often appreciate the support from these institutions that train our staff and provide guidance on the changes needed to keep students and staff safe.

The following practices and procedures facilitate emergency preparedness and address safety concerns.

  • Emergency management plan
  • School threat assessment procedure
  • Emergency training (fire, lockdown, shelter-in-place training)
  • Active shooter training
  • Speak Up Safety Tips Line

In addition to these measures, our district safety team works with local law enforcement agencies to regularly monitor and coordinate our safety procedures. Through deliberate investment over the last three years, we have completed work around the district to improve access point restrictions, improved campus access control, entrance line-of-sight control, and classroom door lock systems. .. That said, we are committed to working with you and law enforcement agencies to evaluate and continually improve your school’s safety protocols and procedures.

Keep in mind that my door and your child’s principal’s door are always open. We will be happy to discuss this scenario and other issues. Thank you for sharing your child with us. We continue to promise to keep them safe every day they are with us.

Dr. Streeter states that the district has emergency procedures in case of safety concerns.

These practices include:

  • Emergency management plan
  • School threat assessment procedure
  • Emergency training (fire, lockdown, shelter-in-place training)
