Bennettsville, South Carolina (WBTW) – The director of the Marlboro County School took a vacation after allowing his member Fraternity to operate the facility on the school grounds.
The decision on Dr. Gregory McCord was announced Tuesday night. Called a special meeting..
This will come later September 13 Marlboro County Board of Education Meeting Dr. McCord acknowledged that Omega Psi Phi allowed to operate the property of Bennettsville Middle School (BIS) without first consulting with the Marlboro County Board of Education. It was revealed that the district was paying for the utilities of this building behind the actual school building.
At a meeting on September 13, fraternity member Gregory Cain said the group would like to partner with the school district to use the facility as a place for youth guidance rather than as a fraternity home. He gave a presentation to the board as a result of community concerns about the facility. Cain said he would like to continue the partnership with the district he called the “partnership” at the time. He also offered a fraternity refund to the district to offset utility bills.
Dr. McCord said when McNeil asked Cain, who allowed his fraternity to work at the facility on September 13. Prior to announcing that Dr. McCord had given approval, he was asked by Board Chairman Larry McNeill to decline the discussion, but Dr. McCord declined. Dr. McCord also said that the other two members of the board are also members of the same Brotherhood. One of them resigned during the meeting on September 13.
After discussions, the board voted 5-0 on September 13 and instructed fraternity groups to remove the building from the property.
Dr. McCord told News 13 after the meeting that if he could do it again, he would “definitely” handle the situation at Omega Psi Phi in another way, telling the school board. He said he wasn’t going around. He said that part of his job as a director was to build partnerships in the community and he felt he was doing this by allowing space where he could help the children.
Dr. McCord sent this statement to News 13 when asked for a comment or statement about taking a vacation on Tuesday night.
There are no comments so far other than saying everything is going well. We go beyond this together. Today is still “the best day of my life!” When you do it right, you sleep well. (V. Ford)
