MARTA to require weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated employees | News – Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia 2021-09-17 04:37:00 –

Atlanta (CBS46) —Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has announced that all unvaccinated employees will be required to undergo a weekly COVID-19 test.

This is because more than half of MARTA’s employees remain unvaccinated, according to information available from the county’s health department.

An online and face-to-face survey conducted by MARTA Research & Analysis revealed that most of the vaccinated employees work in the headquarters and railroad yard, with the lowest vaccination rates in bus garages.

“COVID has hit our frontline employees hard. Nearly 860 people were infected with the virus and lost three members of the MARTA family with the insidious virus,” said MARTA General. Jeffrey Parker, Manager and CEO, said. “The COVID vaccine is safe and effective and is needed to control this pandemic. We have been masking and cleaning for 18 months and expanding our social distance. Now is the time for ourselves alone. It’s time to vaccinate all employees to protect their families, colleagues and customers. “

The new policy is set to start on Monday, October 4th. Vaccinated employees are required to provide a copy of the vaccination card to the personnel to avoid the weekly testing requirements.

MARTA will provide onsite COVID-19 testing and vaccines for one month at headquarters and in the bus garage.
