ST. St. Petersburg, Florida (WFLA) — A man who was seriously injured in a car in St. Petersburg stole a customized prosthesis worth $ 15,000 on Monday night. The male family is now asking the person who owns it to return.
The accident occurred around 10 pm on Monday. According to police, 49-year-old Christopher Allen Harris was walking on 49th Avenue and crossing 5th Avenue North on a pedestrian crossing when he collided with an Infiniti G35 driven by a 21-year-old man.
Harris suffered a life-threatening injury and was taken to Bayfront Health in critical condition.
According to police, Harris’s prosthesis fell off due to the impact of the collision. The leg then collided with another vehicle heading east on Fifth Avenue. A police spokeswoman said both drivers had stopped and were cooperating in the investigation.
According to police, the prosthesis was stolen before police officers arrived at the scene. The legs are customized with Marvel artwork and are worth $ 15,000.
“The victim’s family wants it back,” said Yolanda Fernandez of St. Pete Police. “If you have information about artificial limbs, please return it to the police station.”
Police say the investigation into the accident is still underway, but the detective does not believe that alcohol or drugs were involved.
