Boston (WHDH)-Boston (WHDH)-The Public Health Service reported 5,396 new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Friday.

A total of 413,329 cases have been reported in Massachusetts, with an estimated 90,567 active cases, with an average 7-day positive rate of 7.21 percent.
A total of 77 new deaths were confirmed, and the number of confirmed virus-related deaths increased to 12,875 across the state.
Currently, 2,225 people are hospitalized and 449 are being treated in the intensive care unit.
The virus is thought to spread primarily from person to person, usually between people in close contact with each other, through the respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

As of January 6, 10,220 people under the age of 19 tested positive. The highest positive rate by age group.
Next were 20-29 years old at 10,124 years old, followed by 30-39 years old at 9,375 years old. The lowest age group reported was over 80 years of age, with only 2,629 confirmed cases.
