Wailuku, Hawaii (KHON2) —The Maui County Council recognized Seaman Theodore Kirk Bride in a ceremony resolution after being recognized as a member of the United States Coast Guard in 2021.

The council’s honor was a virtual meeting on Friday, July 23.

He has been at the USCG station on Maui since 2018, shortly after finishing the Coast Guard boot camp.

Kirkbride has saved at least 22 lives because of the many search and rescue operations undertaken at the USCG.

Kirkbride’s rescue includes oxygenating the snorkeler and carrying six sailors to safely tow a disabled boat 25 miles, saving about $ 50,000 in asset value.

His volunteer work in the community includes supporting the Big Brothers Big Sisters on Maui and the Our Kupuna program.
