Tulsa, Oklahoma — Mayor of Tulsa GT Bynum issued a statement hours before the full excavation of Oaklawn Cemetery to look for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre mass grave, which began on Tuesday, June 1. ..

Last week, it was announced that expert investigations would continue, and we will begin mapping and site preparation in the hope that the excavation will begin around 10 am.

In a Facebook post early Tuesday morning, Mayor Bynum said, “Community leaders, historians, tech experts, and all the workers in Tulsa who have led us to this moment for decades. I am very grateful to you. “

From Tuesday, June 1st, experts will work at Oak Lawn Cemetery Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. The Public Oversight Committee closely observes the excavation process.
