Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) —The Mayor of Tucson and the city council have resolved to cancel the expansion of Reid Park Zoo to advance a new hybrid program to save the duck pond.

On Tuesday, with 6-1 votes, the mayor and council resolved to proceed with a new expansion plan to protect both north and south duck ponds. It is called the “D / G Hybrid Plan”.

A final stakeholder meeting was held on April 21 to allow further feedback from the community on expansion.

According to a news release from the city of Tucson, on March 9, the mayor and council resolved to suspend the expansion of the zoo for 45 days to incorporate the views of the community.

On March 3, Mayor Romero called for a suspension for the city and community to work together to find a solution.
