(NEXSTAR) – McDonald’s will soon reward the best customers — what else? — More McDonald’s.
McDonald’s will launch the MyMcDonald’s Rewards loyalty program on July 8th to allow customers to earn points on eligible purchases. This can be redeemed for a “prize” from the restaurant on future visits.
The news released on Tuesday comes after the program has been tested in selected markets in the United States.
The mechanism is as follows. Guests must register with the McDonald’s app before making eligible purchases. Customers earn 100 points for every $ 1 spent on orders placed through the app’s mobile ordering and payment features. Customers can also earn points by simply scanning the QR code at the cash register or kiosk or giving the employee an account code when ordering.
Customers who identify their online account without using any of these methods are not eligible to redeem their points. Courier orders are also excluded from the program.
Guests who earn points will later have access to a “reward option” that they choose from one of four tiers. Tier 1 options can be unlocked at 1,500 points. 3,000 Tier 2; Tier 3 is 4,500 and Tier 4 is 6,000. The reward options for each tier are:
Tier 1: Hash Brown; Vanilla Corn; Cheeseburger; Machikin
Tier 2: Medium fry; Sausage burrito; Chicken mac nuggets (6); Large iced coffee
Tier 3: Filet-O-Fish; Large French Fries; Large Frappe; Egg Sausage McMuffin
Tier 4: Big Mac; Quarter Pounder and Cheese; Happy Meal; Bacon, Eggs, Cheese Biscuits
In other words, McDonald’s customers cost more than $ 60 to win a Big Mac and are considered taxes (and other additional charges such as bag and bottle charges). Do not count Towards the price of the eligible purchase.
McDonald’s also confirms that guests enrolled in the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program will earn 1,500 points after their first purchase and can be redeemed for Tier 1 items on future visits.
McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski previously stated that the company plans to expand the program to several international markets by the end of 2022.
McDonald’s is the latest national food service chain to extend its rewards program to US customers. Starbucks, Red Lobster, Chipotle, Seven-Eleven, Dunkin’Donuts and others already offer some loyalty programs for their guests.
