McLaren Speedtail Albert Honors Prototype with Camo Paint

  • McLaren Special Operations reveals Albert, one-off version Speedtail Entrusted by McLaren Beverly Hills.
  • The name pays homage to the first speedtail prototype named after the original McLaren F1 test car, called Albert after the street where McLaren was based.
  • The painting process at Albert was similar to the prototype camouflage wrap, and it took 12 weeks for the fascinating lines to paint on the speedtail aerodynamic body.

McLaren is only building a sleek, 1035 hp, $ 2.1 million 106 example SpeedtailHowever, the gray and white example called Albert seen here takes exclusivity to the next level. Albert is a one-off event revealed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), a division focused on realizing the dream of ultra-rich cars. It was commissioned by McLaren Beverly Hills.

It sounds strange to name the car Albert, but this Monica represents the ancestor of the Speedtail. In 1992, the legendary McLaren F1 original test mule was called Albert after Albert Drive, as McLaren developed and built a supercar on a British walk. As a homage to this, the original MVY02 Speedtail prototype was given the same name. It is currently moving to this one-off model that honors the test vehicle.

The original Albert was built to test the ergonomics of the center seat driving position and evaluate visibility and rear view camera position. The MVY02 was the first speedtail to drive on public roads and originally used the 720S front-end bodywork.

The production version of Albert mimics the coloring of the prototype camouflage, with complex painting tasks featuring a gradation of gray lines that represent the airflow above the car. The car is painted in magnesium silver, the color of the first F1 road car unveiled at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, and Ueno Gray, which adorned the F1 GTR that won the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours. The MSO team spent 12 weeks applying complex painting tasks. Albert will make his debut this Sunday at Sunset GT, a car and coffee event hosted by Ogara Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, before Monterey Car Week begins on Monday.
