Polk County, Florida — For the past two years, retired engineer Remington Brown has provided hot meals to returnees throughout Polk County.
“I know people because this route I go to is the same every week. They feel like my people and I like it. I like it,” Brown said. Told.
He was able to make a special bond, especially with one client.
“In fact, she was the first person I had a meal with a friend, so she has a special place for me,” Brown said.
Trina Smith is paralyzed from the waist down.
“We really look like close friends, but they don’t. He seems to come the day he comes and he talks to me,” Smith said.
Without Meals on Wheels, she said, there would be no cooked meals, and equally important is the connection with humans.
“I’m really happy to know that some people still care, and it will allow me to spend some time taking the time out of what they are doing to serve me food. With me between meals, “Smith said.
Meals on Wheels of Pork County offers about 1,500 hot meals per day, and more volunteers like Brown are in urgent need.
