The Prime Minister of the Louisiana Medical College resigned Thursday, the day after he returned, as a result of an investigation into the handling of student sexual harassment complaints.

Dr. GE Ghali returned on Wednesday as Prime Minister of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. He was put on leave after suppressing student complaints about sexual harassment by school staff and being accused of retaliation against teachers who supported the students.

School spokeswoman Lisa Babin confirmed him Thursday, an independent investigation revealed him.

After spending five and a half years as prime minister, Gari announced his resignation through a lawyer on Thursday, saying he would spend more time on his family, patients and students.

“As I said at the beginning, and as evidence, the allegations against me were unfounded and absolutely untrue,” he writes.

Allison A. Jones, a lawyer for four employees who complained to Gari, called Gari’s resignation a “step in the right direction.” She questioned the results of the investigation, which is said to have cleared the gully, and said she needed to do more to address the client’s concerns.

“They and the general public have the right to see the research reports published on this issue, especially given that Dr. Gari wants to stay as a faculty member in medical school,” Jones said.
