Lavagne, Tennessee (WKRN) — A memorial service has been announced to honor the life of Lavagne police K-9 Sjaak, who was killed on duty last week.

The Sjaak Celebration of Service Memorial will take place on December 1st at 10am at Lifepoint Church on 506 Legacy Drive in Smyrna.

This service is open to anyone who wants to participate. However, according to La Vergne police, seating is restricted due to antivirus measures being implemented in the church. Attendees should wear masks.

Due to the number of K-9s scheduled to attend the monument, police said civilian pets were not allowed on the premises.

Sjaak died on November 18 during surgery after undergoing three gunshot wounds during a shooting between Sjaak handler Justin Darby and others a day ago. ..

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 39-year-old Jabon Bryce fired at a derby police car along Murfries Boro Road shortly after noon on November 17. Police chase began and a shootout was fought between the police and Bryce. ..

According to the TBI, Bryce was found dead in a car at Rutherford Pointe Apartments after pursuit. He had at least one gunshot wound.

Derby found that Sjaak was shot three times. He had surgery but was unable to survive the injury.

During the celebration of his service, Sjaak will be recognized in full honor.
