Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – A 27-year-old registered member of Mescalero Apache Tribe has pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse. James Darius Kaje will continue to be detained until a sentence, according to a news release from the US Department of Justice District of New Mexico.
Plea bargaining and other court records indicate that on the evening of February 24, 2020 or early morning of February 25, Caje entered the bedroom of a 14-year-old victim and sexually assaulted him. The next day, the victim reported the assault to the school counselor, who reported it to law enforcement.
If convicted, Caje faces 10 years in prison. The FBI is investigating the case, and Aaron O. Jordan, assistant US prosecutor, has charged the case.
