Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) —The Metro Council unanimously passed on Tuesday night to approve Oracle’s deal to bring a $ 1.2 billion investment in Nashville.
This means that Oracle will build a new campus along the eastern bank of the Cumberland River.
Members of the council voted 40-0 in favor of welcoming tech companies. Members of the council also approved amendments that establish the intention to use half of the property tax revenues from the site for affordable housing.
Shortly after the vote, Mayor of Nashville, John Cooper, issued the following statement:
“Today’s Oracle vote shows Metro’s commitment to make the right deal in Nashville. It’s the biggest private investment and the biggest job creation deal in our history. All budget No cost, no new debt. Oracle’s $ 1.2 billion investment creates thousands of quality jobs and helps kids succeed in the digital economy. After a difficult year , This will help start the prosperity of Nashville for the next decade. ”
According to Oracle, the deal will create 2,500 jobs by 2027 and 8,500 jobs by 2031.
