Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) —A man who devoted his professional life to the Metro Government on Wednesday was honored.

Billy Fields has worked for Metro in various positions for over 35 years. He is currently the Transport License Director for Nashville Transport and Multimodal Infrastructure. He is currently one of the longest-serving metro employees and has worked for all Metro Nashville mayors since Bill Boner.

“The more I did, the more I liked it, and the more people gave me the opportunity. It’s fun to help people,” Fields said. “Public services are a great place. I want more people to come. Once done, it’s in your blood and you want to do it forever.”

Fields was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at a reception held at the Centennial Arts Center on Wednesday morning. All seven living mayors he worked for participated as co-sponsors of the event.

“We are civil servants. That is the characteristic that Billy reflects. We are all civil servants. And every day, every meeting, every phone, people can get angry with you. Note, you are still their civil servant. “Mayor John Cooper said.

On the day he was supposed to be in the limelight, Fields confirmed that it wasn’t all of him. The Wednesday event also raised funds for his organization, Neighbor 2 Neighbor. This allows people to make positive changes in their neighborhood.
